Inspired by Japanese philosophy and design language, she specialized in tea ceramics and throwing on the potter's wheel. Nadja Schreier-Aigner currently works in the “Common Ground Keramik” shared studio at the WUK in Vienna and also works as an art educator and ceramics teacher.  Creating the tree-bark effectThe surface of the chawan is defined by a unique structure of cracks, which is created by the application of sodium silicate and is reminiscent of tree bark. In this technique, which Nadja Schreier-Aigner learned in Montréal, sodium silicate is first applied to a turned cylinder. The surface is then heated and dried before being shaped into a bowl from the inside out. The surface begins to crack due to the tension, creating a unique structure. To ensure that the bowls are light and thin-walled, material is removed from the inside of the bowl. On the outside, the black clay remains raw and unglazed, leaving the surface matt and slightly rough. This creates an elegant contrast to the shiny glazed inside of the bowl. See pictures of the production process in the gallery (c)Nadja Schreier-Aigner.Wabi-Sabi – The beauty of imperfection  Nadja Schreier-Aigner's artistic approach to her work is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, in which imperfection represents true beauty. Small cylindrical kyusu in dark aubergine-colored clay with a silky-matte surface and integrated fine-mesh stainless steel strainer, which is also ideal for fine-particle teas such as fukamushicha.  Japanese Kyusu side handle teapots are ideal for preparing green tea. The tea leaves can unfold freely in the pot and are held back in the pot by the integrated sieve in front of the spout during infusion.  The filling quantity of the pot should be selected so that the tea can be completely distributed over the cup(s) provided and no water remains in the pot. The leaves remain in the pot and are then simply brewed again briefly with water for further infusions. This pot is ideal for one person. For this green tea, the tea plants are shaded with special nets before harvesting. The nets allow only about half of the light to pass through, which means that the plants produce a high content of chlorophyll and other active substances and at the same time few bitter substances. Their characteristic "shade aroma" is called "ooika".FukamushichaThe teas in this set have all been intensively steamed (fukamushi-cha, 100 - 120 seconds steaming time). The gentle steaming opens the leaf pores and the extracts pass from the tea leaf more easily and quickly into the water. This can be recognised by the deep green colour of the tea in the cup and the yield of the tea - with top qualities like these, 4 infusions are possible!PreparationWe recommend an infusion temperature of 60-65°C for these teas. Let the first infusion steep for about 1 minute, for later infusions just steep briefly and pour out after a few seconds. For the last infusion, the infusion time can be extended a little more to get all the goodness out of the tea. Intensely steamed early pluckings are also particularly suitable for cold infusions (Mizudashi). Even with cold water, you get an intense and refreshing tea after just a few minutes. Since the bitter substances do not dissolve as strongly in cold water, the sweetish aromas of Kabusecha come into their own. For a cold-brew steep the tea leaves in cold water for at least 5 Minutes.Incidentally, the early pluckings also have a particularly high theanine content, which is noticeable in the sweet taste and comes out best at a low infusion temperature!StorageIn order to preserve the valuable aromas and ingredients of the tea in the best possible way, we ask you to close the bag tightly and store it in a cool, dark place in the fridge or freezer.

The small "Filter-in green bottle" drinking bottle with integrated strainer for preparing cold infusions in the color "Smokey Green" Filling quantity: 300 ml  Ideal for preparing cold infusions of green tea - for a rich but mild aroma. Practical: when brewed cold, the sweetness of the L-theanine in the green tea comes into its own, while the bitter substances remain in the background even after a long brewing time. You can therefore simply store your Mizudashi green tea in the fridge - it will stay fresh, green and mildly aromatic for hours!  Depending on the type of tea, a few minutes are sufficient for infusion, for example KEIKO Shincha Yume (Fukamushi). For less steamed teas or herbal infusions, a longer infusion time of several hours is recommended.  Thanks to the heat-resistant glass, the bottle is also suitable for hot infusions - make sure that only as much water is poured in as is needed so that the tea does not continue to infuse in the bottle. Do not shake the bottle during preparation, but only turn or swirl it carefully, otherwise the tea leaves may slip past the integrated sieve. Tip: Serve cold-brewed green tea from the bottle with food in wine glasses as an alternative to wine.

Dark Matcha whisk (Chasen) made from bamboo. With its slender shape it is perfect for smaller Matcha bowls and comes with a little benchrest.  The handcrafted bamboo Matcha whisks are essential for creating the fine foam-top on your Matcha and making sure the powder dissolves without leaving lumps or a grainy texture. The finer the prongs of the whisk  the better the results.  For the easy preparation at home we recommend to first add only a small amount of water to the Matcha Powder and use the whisk to blend it to a smooth paste. Then add the rest of the water and whisk it up painting an M with the whisk with quick movements from the wrist.  Matcha whisks are made from bamboo-sticks that are cut into fine prongs at the top and then bent into shape. The thicker the bamboo and the higher/sturdier the quality, the more prongs can be made, which is reflected in the different sizes (i.e. 80, 100, 120). Although the numbers traditionally refer to the amount of prongs, the width of the bamboo and the fineness of the prongs are actually more relevant to the size indications.  You will notice that especially Usucha is easier to whisk up with a larger whisk. When a smaller Matcha bowl is used however, a slender whisk is more suitable. Tip: Briefly soak the Matcha whisk in water before using it, to soften the bamboo and avoid breakage.

The bowl is therefore highly recommended for matcha novices. The bowl is about 7.5cm high and has a diameter of 12.5cm. Matcha bowls are actually never filled completely, but only to about 1/3 with about 100ml per serving. This bowl is made in Japan.
